| Summary | 0001537: [Smart3][Android 12] Question of certification | ||||
| Description | Hi YK, SKB is going to upgrade Smart3 to Android 12. As you know, Smart3 is an Ethernet-only device. According to Google's guidance, OEMs with devices that don't have Wi-Fi, but do have another method of accessing the internet (such as 4G, 5G, or Ethernet) must falsely declare the Wi-Fi feature in their device configuration, and hide any Wi-Fi related elements in device settings. Falsely declaring Wi-Fi without the corresponding hardware triggers multiple xTS failures during certification, and these failures can be waived in Android 9/10. Starting with Android 11, Google require devices to support Wi-Fi dongles, typically over USB. This is known to not trigger any tests failures in certification. The model of the adapter is left as a choice to the OEM. For certification purposes, the adapter and the enablement instructions have to be provided to the third party lab (3PL) responsible for the testing. My question is as follows, Are other OEMs aware of this new requirement? I've asked this question to Amlogic FAE before. but they didn't have any idea. I think you can raise this topic in SKB meeting, and SKB can push Amlogic to support one Wifi-USB dongle for Google certification. If SKB can push Amlogic, I think all OEMs will buy the same WIFI USB dongle that Amlogic can support it. If all OEMs buy the same Wifi USB dongle, it will reduce the risk of inconsistent xTS results for each OEMs test in the future. reference: ethernet-only_device.jpg Thanks, Jason | ||||

Hi jason I have an official meeting about ATV 12 with SKB tomorrow I will update the result of tomorrow's meeting on this mantis. Thank you YK.Jung |

Hi Jason This topic was discussed during the SKB meeting. SKB wants to know the current compatible usb WIFI dongle device list information in Amlogic SDK. Please let me know the list of devices. then we can select the devices we can purchase from the list. Thank you YK.Jung |

Hi YK, I've asked the same question to Amlogic a few months ago. There was no answer that time. I've also checked the their recommended wifi module list before. The wifi module recommended by Android 10/11 SDK is usually the SDIO interface. (not USB interface). Mr. Jacky had a meeting with Amlogic FAE leader this week. He asked Amlogic FAE leader to check this question again. I think we can postpone this question for 1 or 2 weeks until the Amlogic give a formal answer. If I get any information from Amlgoic, I'll let you know. Thanks, Jason |

Hi Jason Is it possible to proceed with Google test using USB wifi dongle? Smart3 have 1 USB port. I think we need to check if the adb (USB) and wifi device can be used at the same time Please check it In the case of INTEK, there is one more USB port in the 3PL test sample, so there is no problem. Thank you YK.Jung |

Hi YK, USB adb should be run as USB Device mode. USB wifi dongle should be run as USB Host mode. so USB adb and USB wifi can not run at the same time even with USB Hub. In my opinion, during Google testing The first round, we will use USB adb to run xTS test (only use USB cable to connect to Host PC), and there will be many wifi related failures. (Same as Android 9/10) In second round, we will insert USB wifi dongle to STB USB port, and we will use TCP (ethernet/wifi) adb to retry (eliminate) the rest of failure (wifi related failure) I don't think there will be a problem. If there is a failure due to hardware limitations, I think we can request waiver. Thanks, Jason |

Hi YK, Amlogic has supported one wifi dongle (RTL8723DU) Now we can use wifi, so I close it. Thanks, Jason |

Hi YK, During the wifi-related test item, We will insert USB wifi dongle to USB port, and use tcp adb via ethernet. But we encountered ethernet disconnect issue during testing the following item, run cts -m CtsNetTestCases -t android.net.cts.ConnectivityManagerTest#testSetOemNetworkPreferenceForTestPref We can NOT use USB adb (because USB port is occupied by wifi dongle) We can NOT use WIFI adb (because during the testing, the test item will switching Wi-Fi off/on. If the adb connection is over Wi-Fi, then it's interrupted as the test runs) We would like to know how Intek pass this item, Did they add the 2nd USB port on their Smart3? (1 port for wifi dongle, 1 port for usb adb) >>In the case of INTEK, there is one more USB port in the 3PL test sample, so there is no problem. Could you confirm your comment again? (Does Intek's official product has one port USB, but they delivery 2 USB ports sample to 3PL? ) Thanks, Jason |
|
|
Hi YK, One more question, Does Intek submit 2 USB ports sample to 3PL from Android 10? Thanks, Jason |
|
|
Hi Jason I checked it again. INTEK submitted to 3PL as samples with 2 USB ports when ATV10 the other debug USB port is connected by a PCB and a wire, and a usb socket is connected separately out of the case. (that is , INTEK's official product has only one port USB , INTEK delivered 2 USB ports sample to 3PL) Thank you YK.Jung |
